Hey everybody. First post here; kind of an unorthodox first post I guess.
The purpose of this thread is to address the history and current status of “Josh the Mongoose”. I’m sure most of you know about this person, but I’m not sure about how much you know about this person. For those of you who caught a glimpse of him a few days back, making his "apology" as “ShadowZero3500”, I am who he mentioned as The Hairy Bandit. I’m just a friend of Netaro’s, and he told us this story over 2 lunch periods at school. After reanalyzing certain bits and pieces over AIM, I’ve decided that I’m going to briefly outline the history of his existence on these forums in this thread.
For those who know/are uninterested in his history, scroll down. Way down.
NOTE: a few minor details of these events may not be in exactly the correct order, however all of this did happen.
Chapter 1: Xrayted
I suppose it all started with Mongoose. Josh was supposedly hooked up with somebody who called themselves “Patsy Smiles” outside of these forums. They split up, and Patsy Smiles found her way to these forums. She role-played first person as the Camp Lazlo character Patsy Smiles for a little while, but eventually became known as Mongoose, and was popular (so I’ve heard). Josh found his way here, and during a Truth or Dare Game thread started by Netaro, began to argue with Mongoose about something. Netaro shut them up, and kept the thread going. Soon afterwards, Netaro was offered the status of Moderator.
Now that Josh is part of the forums, he mingles a bit with the people and starts to draw lots of Camp Lazlo fan-art. In various PMs, Josh sent picture after picture to Netaro, asking for his opinion on this and that, already stating his own. Netaro would always respond, saying something generic like “cool”, or “that’s pretty trippy”.
Eventually, Josh’s Patsy obsession gets out of hand, and he is proclaiming it loud for the world to hear. His fan-art pictures now always included his new character “Josh the Mongoose” somehow displaying his affection for Patsy Smiles (whether that be simply kissing or… rather disturbing pornographic pictures (of which I’ve thankfully never seen)). Most people though it was funny, or cute; however it escalated to the point where it was old and annoying, so people stopped treating him so nicely. As a result, Josh was dumbfounded and didn’t take people’s lack of attention with ease- he did everything he could to either pity himself, or get people to pity him; he made this poll, asking what people thought of him and whether or not he should leave the forums.
People talked him out of it, most saying that they didn’t want him to leave because he was a cool guy and all that stuff, and he was happy again. However (if you look at the polls, you can see) one person voted that he indeed should leave. This made Josh very upset, and (after Netaro told him to IM him if he had any problems) he IM’d Netaro. The person who voted yes was a person who was already giving Netaro a lot of trouble (with things that mostly involved blatant gay bashing), and he set him straight by changing his avatar into a rainbow or something. Later, he suspended him for this reason, and the other problems he’s caused in the past; and again Josh was happy.
After this whole incident, Josh started IMing Netaro excessively. None of it was really interesting, or related to problems, just stupid small-talk. Around this time, Ness’s RPG was getting popular, and Josh demanded he be the strongest character. He was. After that (not necessarily related to that), Josh goes from happy to SUPER EGO LOOK-AT-ME happy. He didn’t control a lot of the things he said, and his Patsy obsession slipped beyond bearable… again. For example Josh would now draw all these pictures of Patsy being pregnant with his babies, and he wouldn’t shut up about “making love” and “frenching” with her. People complained a bit, and Josh finally found out. He seeked pity and shelter from peoples' false praise, however it was too much for his fragile ego to take. Josh left the forums.
Chapter 2: Juggernaut
Some time after, just before the time Sanna became moderator, Josh suddenly reappeared as the user "Juggernaut". He did a few stupid things, like make pointless threads such as this poll about... chicken little... (I actually think this thread is a prime example of his mental status; if you look all he does is beg people to still be friends with him.. even though nobody really even hinted that they would stop being friends with anybody who disagrees with them in the first place. I'm not a psychologist, but that seems to be an immature method of desperately seeking acceptance from other people). More notably, however, during the time after Sanna became moderator, Josh went on a policing spree and enforced the rules strictly to everyone. Now, this may seem opinionated, however I think Josh was simply trying to suck up to the moderators, just so he could have a chance to be one himself (again, I'm not a psychologist, but that seems to be an insecurity about his position in power over others (which is more blatantly noticeable later on in his "paper people" videos and his own forums. That's later though)).
After accepting that he was not going to be moderator (an assumption... he was not though), Josh jumped on the Online bfgf bandwagon (most likely known to you as the "Love Fad"), and hooked up with Karen. Eventually these two became known as the forums' friggin couple (mostly due to this tedious thread ... 10 pages of a wedding role-play... good god...).
Mongoose, who was still around at this time, didn't quite like the whole Love Fad thing. In this poll, Mongoose votes no. Politely, I might add. After this simple act of stating an honest opinion, Josh flames Mongoose through PMs to the point where she leaves the forums...
Really, after all that nonsense, nothing notable happened. Josh just went around the threads gathering Josh minions for awhile. Eventually, his alter-ego became his reality. Josh was Josh the Mongoose, and nothing else. After this got out of hand, the moderators made a forum issues thread, which mostly had to do with OC's running rampant in the threads- mainly and most notably Josh's OC.
Apparently, Josh was offended by a comment Jack made, and this is the thought to be the reason he left. Again. (Also, something else to think about.. in one of his role-plays about patsy or somebody, Josh would randomly say that they "made love" from time to time. Some people caught this, and said "... WTF?". Josh had no idea that "making love" had anything to do with sex, and simply thought it meant "Kissing". Heh. People had to correct him, publicly, which to some would be considered pretty humiliating. Well anyway, this happened RIGHT before he disappeared from the forums). Josh left the forums for a second time.
Chapter 3: Josh the Friggin' Mongoose
These are the dark times of Josh; the times his character and personality get to be their worst.
After Josh took his sudden leave, many others who had befriended him considered leaving as well.
Josh came to the conclusion that he was to make his own Camp Lazlo Forums, and he did so. Ah yes! The ultimate position of power! Josh became an admin of his very own board! ... Josh did NOT use his powers responsibly. Eventually, this "Camp Lazlo" Forum became a shrine to Josh's existence, where people could come to worship and praise him as the almighty god of power! Josh the mongoose, the strongest being in the universe! A bit exadgurated, I admit, however this is the way he acted. The only reason this board was a place to worship Josh, and nothing else, was because Josh would ban/suspend all users who talked any trash on him. For example, some person said that Josh's character sucked in Ness's RPG. Josh freaked out and demanded he be removed from the game immediately (... Again, I'm not a psychologist.... but Jesus, he was actually affected by that comment to that extreme. Later, as I take on the role of The Hairy Bandit, I mention this as "Running away from the things that shame you", which I will get much more into later on). The person who made this comment apologized for it, and said that she changed her mind; Josh is a pretty cool character. Josh said something along the lines of "Hahaha! I forgive you, but now you're banned!".
... Anyway, Josh was kickin it in his own forums, and his insecurity for power was completely eliminated. Josh having his own forums wasn't really a problem for anyone, or at least, it wouldn't have been if it wasn't the cause of many members quitting these forums and joining those just to praise Josh the almighty.
Josh rejoins the forums. His screename was simply "Josh". And then... there was thehost. TheHost was a random newbie who joined, and wreaked spamming havoc in the threads.
This was annoying, especially to the moderators. Netaro suspected Josh of these doings because of his typing style, and asked to talk to him on AIM. Started with a simple Netaro: Hey, what up? Josh: Oh nothing, but thehost is really annoying!
...
Now I'm not a psychologist... but... well jeez. You can figure that one out, can't you? I mean sheesh, he says it right off the bat.
Netaro brought up his suspicion of Josh being thehost. Obviously, Josh denied it. Netaro went along with it for awhile, but then stated that it could be proven that Josh was indeed thehost. IP address. DUH! Josh continued to deny it, regardless of the invincible evidence. He then accused Netaro of... "using him" ().
Around this time, Josh made his Lets-Praise-Josh forums members only, so only those who continued to worship him could glimpse at the shameful acts that went on in there.
After all of this, Josh sticks around a little bit on the forums, although not as much as he used to. Now, Josh is totally into his myspace, and role-plays with somebody named Patsy. Now, who this Patsy was is still yet to be confirmed, but apparently Patsy has now had her babies, and Josh is now the father of Amanda and Ashley Mongoose. It has been confirmed, that these two children were role-played by Josh, so concluding that Patsy was actually Josh is only to be assumed (Josh claimed that it was his friend Alex. Way to go Josh! You had babies with Alex!). The role playing continues for awhile, and then Sanna draws a picture that blatantly hints towards Josh's obsession with Patsy (Hope you don't mind that I post that). What's that? Oh! Well now Josh suddenly breaks up with Patsy. Patsy is now replaced by Cecelia.
Now, Josh practically LIVES on myspace, and role-plays 12 hours a day with his friends. He would.. "battle" people with his mongoose character (which means: Josh made another account and battled it with his main one; making the new one lose). I believe that around this time, Josh got Debaser into some legal trouble that he had to go to court for (he can talk about that if he wants, I won't get into it).
On Josh's sanctuary forums, somebody who went by the name of "Raven" would draw lots of fanart for Josh. Eventually, somehow they hooked up and Josh made the most ridiculously exadgurated exclamation of love he's ever done (besides his pornographic pictures... but that's not necessarily love now, is it?). His myspace was transformed into a shrine for Raven, complete with plenty of crappy pictures and ridiculous role-play scenarios.
Karen, the girl Josh was ... "Married" to... finally understood what was wrong with Josh, and came to her senses. She split up with him, and Josh went pretty emo for like, a day (I recall seeing a picture on his myspace; it was Josh the Mongoose sitting alone on a rock in a misty gray atmosphere crying. The caption said "I may be a god, but that doesn't mean I can't be lonely").
I believe at this point, Josh was no longer visiting the forums. It was all about his own forums, and his myspace. Josh was lost to all who didn't join his forums, or his myspace...
Chapter 4: The Hairy Bandit
Now… Everything that I have spoken has been from other peoples’ perspectives. I only witnessed a few things towards the end myself, and that was very little.
However..
I had my very own experience with Josh that most (if not all) of you do not know about.
Around the time he left, Josh gave up on Camp Lazlo, and began an obsession with Megaman X. He converted his myspace to everything megaman, and people kind of gave up on him. All of the moderators on this forum (Tiff, Sanna, Netaro), along with a lot of you I'd guess, tried pretty hard to help this guy out. They gave him advice, they used to give him praise, etc… But Josh would never change. Regardless of what people tried, all Josh would do is pretend to go out and change, and admit everything that was wrong with him. As soon as those people who tried to help him laid off a bit, and stopped paying so much attention, he’d go right back to doing whatever it was that people advised him not to do.
I experienced this first-hand, and I have to say I’m very disappointed.
After a few weeks of megaman obsession, Josh went back to Patsy (again, I know…). This was not too long ago, when I had finally heard and understood his whole history. I decided to try something, and see if I could knock him out of it. The way I saw it, Josh was fragile. Any time that he felt safe and comfortable, and somebody came in to say something negative about anything related to him, Josh would panic and freak out. Most of the time, this led to him going off and hiding, or deleting whatever evidence that pertained to what caused the negative feedback (such as pictures in his DevArt gallery getting negative comments (which he called “critique”), resulting in him deleting the picture). I thought about using this to my advantage. The one thing that Josh desperately needs, is to get off of his computer. All of his problems are due to his lack of sociality in the real world, and his immaturity is caused by him being spoiled by the shower of praise and pity he gets from people. Only online, folks, only online.
If, I were to scare Josh off of the places he spends 12 hours a day on (his forums, his myspace) then he would have little places to go. If he had no place to waste his time on the computer, he might finally listen to the advice that people give him, and find other hobbies.
So, my first step was to scare him off his myspace. It wasn’t hard at all, really; in fact it was practically effortless. I drew a picture of Josh with his little “J-Saber” lodged down his throat (which was a little graphic, so I won’t link to it), and made it my picture on a new myspace I called “The Hairy Bandit”. I added him as a friend. Immediately (probably due to the fact that he is literally always online), Josh ran away and made his myspace private. I laughed at this attempt to hide, and emailed him a quick paragraph of the problems he’s got. Josh then deleted his myspace.
I was shocked at how quickly I had succeeded, but then I was dumbfounded… Josh has like 20 myspaces for all of his little fake battle characters, or children. Plus, he could just make a new one if he wanted. I didn’t quite know what to do, since there seemed to be no way to exterminate this rodent. I replaced my graphic Josh-scaring picture with another one, and emailed what was obviously his new main myspace (it said (I Love Raven) next to his name….). He responded thinking I was Netaro (), and asked if we could just “talk it out”. Over a few emails, I explained that I wasn’t Netaro, and just somebody who was worried about his current status. He needed to do something about his life before it was too late. Josh actually realized this, and accepted my help; even told me he wanted my advice. I was surprised at how aware of his problems he really was… and I went ahead and gave him a whole list of advice. The main things I listed were: Get off of the computer. Stop running from the things that shame you. Stop making things that shame you in the first place. Find a new hobby (I suggested guitar, since he had one). Get a job and/or a girlfriend you can actually make physical contact with.
I said a lot of things, but those were the main points. He responded with “Ok ^^ I spend too much time on this computer anyway. I’ll take a break from it!”.
Apparently, Josh considers a break from his computer to be half an hour. 28 minutes later, Josh emailed me again asking how I was doing “lately”. Now, as I’ve said three times before, I’m not a psychologist… However, when a person is desperately trying to gain somebody else’s acceptance, they will try to suck up a little and be as nice as possible. Whether it was that Josh was nervous, or just plain stupid… I’m not sure… however, I have never spoken to this guy. He has never spoken to me. He thinks first of all, that we are friends, and second of all, he can treat it like we’ve been friends for awhile (hence the “lately”).
I of course, went all off on him in my next email. Explained that he didn’t take my advice, and all he seemed to hear was “get off the computer” (which he didn’t listen to, for Christ’s sake!). He responded with “sorry pity me pity me wah wah BS”. I told him that I am not going to give into that pity BS, as it’s the thing that fuels his darn behavior.
There was a break in the emails from then, and I had a talk with Netaro. He suggested I remind him about an apology he promised to everyone (mainly Debaser, for the legal trouble). I went ahead and told him, and he rejoined the forums as ShadowZero3500, and made that apology thread (the one I posted at the top). He then emailed me saying something along the lines of “Hey, I made an apology, and I even gave you credit! I just wanna say…. Well… thanks” … like the whole thing was over. While I thought it was pretty cool he actually listened to me (or anybody) for once, he thought he could just waltz back into his myspace hole and pretend nothing happened. After reading a … LONG conversation that Netaro had with him, I realized a few things that didn’t really get my attention before. Netaro went all out in the convo, just spilled his flaming guts on the table and explained how much and why he despised him. He brought up plenty of great examples, and over 40 times josh said something similar to “I’m sorry, I’ve changed”. What he didn’t understand, and what Netaro and I where trying to explain to him, was that he hasn’t done anything to prove that he’s changed yet. All he’s done (even in his apology), is said that he changed.
In fact, along with only saying that he changed, he did a lot of things during this time that went against my advice. Examples include, but are not limited to: keeping his myspace private, making his AIM private, making his photobucket private, deleting his paper people videos (which I mentioned in my emails – I knew he was going to delete them so I backed up a couple of them (scroll down some and I’ll give a link)), keeping the alias of Josh the Mongoose, not giving credit for other people’s work, etc.
I also had the chance to peek at his private myspace (by means of which I will not say). I have to say I’m pretty disappointed… apparently, Josh “gave up destruction” (as stated by him in his conversation with Netaro). Well, look-e here! His myspace has two videos of people beating the crap out of a gamecube and an Xbox360, AND LIGHTING THEM ON FIRE!! He’s also just role-playing as Josh the Mongoose, battling people, and complaining like a 12 year old every 30 minutes about how much Tom sucks since he couldn’t comment anyone for a day or so. It’s a real nightmare.
I’ve given up on Josh. I don’t know what else to do…
They say the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over, and expecting different results. Maybe, it’s insanity trying to get Josh to change. At this point, I don’t think there’s a way to get that small-headed insecurity magnet to do anything with his life; and so I have nothing more to say to him. If any of you wish to talk to him, maybe get him to change, then I wish you the best of luck because I believe it’s futile.
I’ve known about Josh for awhile now, but the thing that made me take action was his “paper people” videos. He had 22 of these things up on zippy videos, and of course after mentioning them, he freaked out and deleted them. I predicted he would, so I saved four of them onto my hardrive. I only have one uploaded to Google video, still need to upload the other 3, but here’s the link to it.
This video is… disturbing. It made me worry a bit. I showed it to my friends, and they thought it was some kind of suicidal cry for help. I honestly could just imagine him suddenly bursting into tears as he throws his frying pan angrily at sigma. Watch as Josh tries to be funny with humor even my 11-year-old brother could top, and how he subconsciously takes out an INCREADIBLE amount of anger (most likely built from self pity and hatred) on inanimate objects. Other videos that I didn’t get to back up in time, included Josh knocking over his book case on a paper doll, and putting sigma in his dreamcast, then commencing to beat the crap out of it.
*Ahem*… Well, with all that aside, the chronicles of Josh the Mongoose come to an end.. for now. Whether they continue depends on many things, but one thing is certain; Josh will never stop being the person he is.
